Facebook Page Owners Face Monthly Link Limits Unless They Subscribe
Meta is limiting Facebook Pages to two free hyperlinks per month, with paid plans offering more posting capacity. The change could raise costs for businesses and publishers that rely on Facebook to direct customers to outside websites.
Facebook Page operators will be able to include just two hyperlinks in posts or reels each month without paying Meta, according to details published Oct. 23.
Meta’s proposed tiers would charge $49.99 a month for its One Advanced plan, which allows eight hyperlinks in posts or reels. A $499 monthly Max plan offers unlimited hyperlinks.
The limits apply to Facebook Pages, rather than personal profiles. The change may affect businesses, publishers and other organizations that use Facebook to send audiences to their own websites or other outside destinations.
Social-media platforms have a financial incentive to keep users scrolling instead of clicking away. David Evans, managing director at consulting firm BRG, has described the model as using content to hold consumers’ attention and selling advertisers access to that audience.
Ashley Gullen, who runs a game-design company, criticized the move in a post on Mastodon, calling it an extreme example of platforms worsening the experience for users. Meta’s stated reasoning for the new pricing was not included in the available details.
The policy adds another potential cost for organizations that depend on major platforms to reach customers. Businesses will have to decide whether the added reach is worth a subscription—or whether to find other ways to bring visitors to their sites.
