TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A confrontation at a homecoming party near Florida A&M University turned into a shooting Saturday night, injuring 12 people, including six juveniles, authorities said. The gunfire broke out on Perry Street near the university campus shortly before 8 p.m. Police said an initial investigation found that a physical altercation preceded the shooting. They have not disclosed what sparked the dispute or identified any suspects. Eleven people sustained gunshot wounds, according to the initial report, and another person was injured. Tallahassee police said at least three victims had serious injuries, while nine others were in stable condition. The youngest person shot was reported to be 11 years old. “It is especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured,” Police Chief Lawrence Revell said. The department’s violent crimes unit is investigating. Florida A&M said student, faculty and staff safety remained its highest priority.
