Ex-Assemblywoman Ari Espinal Denies Felony Theft Charge Involving Union PAC
Former New York State Assembly member Ari Espinal has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge alleging she stole $33,245 from a labor organization, according to court records. Espinal was arraigned Oct. 7 on a grand larceny charge. The court records do not name the organization. A person familiar with the case identified it as the Mason Tenders’ District Council PAC, the political arm of a union representing thousands of construction workers in New York. Espinal has worked as the PAC’s political and policy coordinator. The allegation remains unproven. Espinal is scheduled to return to court Dec. 10. Her attorney, Anthony DiFiore, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Espinal served eight months in the state Assembly in 2018 and has remained active in New York politics. She is also the cousin of a senior aide in New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration.
