DeWine urges Ramaswamy to pull ad involving Amy Acton’s mother
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on Thursday urged Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to remove a campaign ad featuring the estranged mother of Democratic candidate Amy Acton, calling the spot wrong and “deeply, deeply troubling.” Speaking with reporters in Columbus, DeWine said the circumstances behind the family estrangement made the ad especially troubling. He said Acton’s mother’s husband had been indicted by a grand jury after testimony, and that the husband and mother then left; Acton’s two children did not see their mother afterward, DeWine said. “When you know that, it just, to me, makes it more serious,” DeWine said. “It makes it just more wrong.” DeWine has endorsed Ramaswamy to succeed him as governor. Although he called for the ad to be taken down, he did not withdraw that endorsement.
