Democrats Put Six Figures Behind Challenge to Ohio GOP Rep. Mike Turner

Democrats Put Six Figures Behind Challenge to Ohio GOP Rep. Mike Turner
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching two six-figure television ad buys against Rep. Mike Turner in Ohio’s 10th Congressional District, escalating its effort to challenge the seven-term Republican in a seat he won by more than 18 percentage points in 2024. The ads, scheduled to air this week, promote Democratic challenger Kristina Knickerbocker. One opens with a woman saying the district needs a representative who “actually stands up for us” as Knickerbocker jogs through a neighborhood. Turner’s western Ohio district includes the Dayton area. The DCCC is treating the race as a possible pickup, despite Turner’s strong recent showing: he outperformed President Donald Trump in 2024, according to the figures cited by the campaign group. A new internal DCCC poll of 535 likely voters found Knickerbocker ahead by three points, the committee said. That result contrasts with polling from the summer that showed Turner leading. The DCCC poll is an internal survey, not an independent measure of the race. Ohio adopted a new congressional map last year. Under the revised boundaries, the 10th District would have backed Trump by about eight points in 2024, compared with six points under the prior lines, according to cited election analyses. The DCCC’s investment comes as other political groups spend on the contest. House Majority PAC has already put more than $1 million into opposing Turner and has advertising reservations planned through Nov. 3. The National Republican Congressional Committee has also been spending in the district for several weeks to support the incumbent. DCCC spokesperson Riya Vashi said the committee wants voters to hear its case against Turner and claimed Knickerbocker has momentum. NRCC spokesperson Zach Bannon praised Turner’s record on taxes, costs and public safety, while attacking Knickerbocker as a liberal. Turner won’t be made vulnerable simply by a burst of campaign advertising: the race remains a reach for Democrats in a district that has favored Republicans. Knickerbocker is not on the DCCC’s “Red to Blue” list, which identifies candidates slated to receive the committee’s largest share of resources. Still, the dueling spending signals that both parties see the seat as worth contesting as the November midterms approach.
