Crypto-backed PAC network keeps $95 million in reserve after major Ohio Senate push
A political network backed largely by cryptocurrency companies and investors finished September with more than $95 million in cash, leaving it with substantial resources to influence the final stretch of the 2026 midterm elections, federal campaign filings show. The filings, made public Tuesday, cover Fairshake and its affiliated committees Defend American Jobs and Protect Progress. The groups support candidates from both parties who favor the crypto industry, though their remaining money could also be held for future elections, including the 2028 cycle. The network’s largest spending effort so far has been a $45 million campaign through Defend American Jobs, its Republican-aligned committee. The money is backing Ohio Republican Sen. Jon Husted and targeting former Sen. Sherrod Brown, a critic of the crypto industry who previously chaired the Senate Banking Committee. Fairshake is also spending on a smaller scale to support 32 House incumbents considered friendly to the industry. Coinbase, Ripple and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz are the network’s primary funders. The size of its reserves gives those donors’ preferred candidates a potentially powerful source of late-cycle advertising and other campaign support, even as voters weigh a range of local and national issues. The filings do not establish how much of the remaining cash the committees will spend before Election Day. Their substantial balance leaves open the possibility that some funds will be saved for later contests.
